Remember Me

leave a comment »

“Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.

Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann’d:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.

Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad”.

ChakrVyuh – beautiful poem in Ardh Satya

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Where The Mind Is Without Fear – beautiful poem by Tagore

leave a comment »

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

When you have a geek husband….

leave a comment »

The other day my husband asked me “What is the literal meaning of ‘geek’?” And I replied, “A person who is single minded on something(used in technical sense mostly) and usually not aware of social norms or doesn’t care about them”. Then he asked, “So do you think I am a geek?” and pat came my response “Yes!”.

What happened in the evening almost proved it. We went for a stroll after dinner and we ended up discussing game theory and John Nash:). Here was his question – In a room filled with 100 people, where everyone has to choose one number between 1 and 100 in such a way that the one whose number is closest to 2/3rd of the average wins, what would you choose? Well assuming that the average will fall close to 50, one would choose 2/3rd of 50 – 33. Now we can assume that all players would know the strategy of other players and hence choose the best option.  So  most people in the room would know and hence choose 33 🙂 So in that case what would you choose now? Well , you may say – 22 and so the game goes on.

Now it was a mathematician called John Nash (of “A Beautiful Mind” fame ) who came up with this theory – that in equilibrium state this number would tend to be 0. – And its called Nash Equilibrium! John Nash gave a way of predicting what will happen if several people make a decision at the same time and if the output depends on the decision of others.

Interesting:)
